The new electronics regulation in Ontario took effect on January 1, 2021, under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act.
The law moves Ontario to an Individual Producer Responsibility framework, overseen by the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority. Producers may pay for the program by including it in their product price or charging a recycling/environmental handling fee per unit sold.
