I. Associated Industry-Led Electronics Recycling Programs in Canada
Electronic Products Recycling Association British Columbia (EPRA BC) is a not-for-profit organization established originally as ESABC in November 2006 in conjunction with Ministry approval of the ESABC Stewardship Plan for handling end-of-life electronics.
The over 1,700 stewards in the EPRA BC program are comprised of major producers and retailers of electronics in British Columbia. EPRA BC is responsible to their stewards for implementing and operating an environmentally responsible program for handling electronic waste in accordance with EPRA BC standards and the requirements of the EPRA BC Stewardship Plan. The ESABC stewardship program (now EPRA BC) has been operational since August 2007.
EPRA BC’s electronics recycling program is delivered to BC, by Encorp Pacific under the brand Return-It™ Electronics.
Industry through EPRA BC is committed to providing British Columbians with efficient, convenient and environmentally sound solutions for managing obligated end-of-life electronics.
As of July 31, 2015 EPRA BC has diverted over 135,000 metric tonnes of electronics from landfills. EPRA BC is currently averaging more than 1,850 metric tonnes of diversion per month.
In 2015 EPRA BC diverted over 22,700 metric tonnes (4.9 kilos per capita) of regulated electronics from landfill, while ensuring that they were recycled responsibly and not shipped offshore to developing countries.
As of August 1, 2013, EPRA BC is accepting e-toys.
The Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) is responsible for managing the industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program for consumers and businesses in Saskatchewan.
More than 700 manufacturers, retailers, and other stakeholders are stewards of the EPRA Saskatchewan Program Plan, which is approved by government in accordance with Saskatchewan’s Waste Electronic Equipment Regulations.
EPRA Saskatchewan annually collects over 465,000 devices in the province for recycling. Since launching in Saskatchewan in 2007, the program has recycled more than 26,500 metric tonnes of end-of-life electronics in an environmentally sound and socially responsible manner, diverting millions of devices from landfills and illegal export.
EPRA Manitoba operates as part of the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) and is responsible for managing the industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program for consumers and businesses in Manitoba.
More than 500 manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders are stewards of the EPRA Manitoba Program Plan, which is approved by government in accordance with the Government of Manitoba’s Electrical and Electronic Equipment Stewardship Regulation program.
EPRA Manitoba annually collects over 480,000 devices in the province for recycling. Since launching in Manitoba on August 1, 2012, EPRA Manitoba recycled more than 8,560 metric tonnes of end-of-life electronics in an environmentally sound and socially responsible manner, diverting over 1.3 million devices from landfills and illegal export.
EPRA-Québec is responsible for implementing and operating an industry-led electronic products recycling program that is available for consumers and businesses throughout the province. The program is approved by the Québec Government in accordance with the Regulation Respecting the recovery and reclamation of products by enterprises.

Electronic Products Recycling Association – Nova Scotia (EPRA Nova Scotia) is responsible for implementing and operating an industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program that is available for consumers and businesses throughout the province. In accordance, more than 500 manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders are stewards of EPRA Nova Scotia’s program.
More than 710 manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders are stewards of the EPRA Nova Scotia Program Plan, which is approved by government in accordance with the with the Solid Waste-Resource Management Regulation.
Since launching in Nova Scotia in 2008, EPRA Nova Scotia has recycled more than 34,800 metric tonnes of end-of-life electronics in an environmentally sound and socially responsible manner.
Electronics Products Recycling Associations – Prince Edward Island (EPRA Prince Edward Island) is responsible for implementing and operating an industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program that is available for consumers and businesses throughout the province.
More than 290 manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders are stewards of the EPRA Prince Edward Island Program Plan, which is approved by government in accordance with the Materials Recycling Regulation.
Since launching in Prince Edward Island in 2010, EPRA Prince Edward Island has recycled more than 3,700 metric tonnes of end-of-life electronics in an environmentally sound and socially responsible manner, diverting them from landfills and illegal export.
ERPA New Brunswick is responsible for implementing and operating an industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program that is available for consumers and businesses throughout the province.
ERPA Newfoundland and Labrador is responsible for implementing and operating an industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program that is available for consumers and businesses throughout the province.
More than 270 manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders are stewards of the EPRA Newfoundland and Labrador Program Plan, which is approved by government in accordance with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Regulation.
EPRA Newfoundland and Labrador annually collects over 133,500 devices in the province for recycling. Since launching in Newfoundland and Labrador on August 1, 2013, the program has recycled more than 1,600 metric tonnes of end-of-life electronics in an environmentally sound and socially responsible manner, diverting over 248,000 devices from landfills and illegal export.
II. Other Programs in Canada
ARMA is a not-for-profit association responsible for managing Alberta’s tire, electronics and paint recycling programs. The organization reports to the Minister of Environment and is run by a Board of Directors representing many stakeholder groups.
The Northwest Territories Electronics Recycling Program launched February 1, 2016.
III. Supporting Industry Associations and Organizations
EPSC is a not-for-profit, industry-led organization with a membership spanning more than twenty leading Canadian electronics manufacturers that are working to design, promote and implement sustainable solutions for the recycling of end-of-life electronics.
Electro-Federation Canada is a national, not-for-profit industry association. Together, its six councils represent over 300 member companies that manufacture, distribute, and service electrical, electronic, and telecommunications products, contributing over $50B to the Canadian economy.

Founded in 1963, Retail Council of Canada is the voice of retail. RCC is a not-for-profit association with more than 40,000 storefronts representing all retail formats, including national and regional department stores, mass merchants, specialty chains, independent stores and online merchants.
